No Police Department representatives were available to provide a report, because of training commitments and vacations.

Lisa Marie Harris, from the Long Beach chapter of the American Red Cross, spoke about earthquake preparedness and provided a visual presentation and informational pamphlets. A gift basket, provided by We Olive, was presented to Harris.

No BSBA representative was present to provide a report.

Julie Maleki from Third District Councilman Gary Delong's office announced these items of interest: A plan to name the dog beach after Rosie, Justin Rudd's bulldog that died recently, the planting of eleven eucalyptus trees along Lois Lane, a free document shredding event on May 15 at the Sea Scout base, and the next Beach Committee meeting on April 15 at 4:30 pm at Delong's field office.

Secretary Jeff Miller reported these items of correspondence last month: membership renewal reminders sent to 105 BSRA members in arrears, which cost $46.20 in postage; a letter to City Council member Gary Delong opposing the proposal by Kitesurfari to place a shipping container on the beach and requesting a public hearing on the issue; and a letter to Delong supporting beach parking multi-meters. Miller reported 12 membership renewals and 2 new memberships received; there are now 273 members. A motion to spend up to $100 for administrative supplies (prepaid photocopy cards, postage stamps, and envelopes) was approved unanimously.

Treasurer Robert O'Connor reported our checking account balance is $4,458. His motion to donate $300 to the Friends of the Library, designated for the Bayshore Library, was approved unanimously.

With respect to ongoing concerns and complaints about disturbances at Club Evo, President Aileen Colon reported the advice from the police is to report disturbances, keep records of the disturbances, and file official complaints.

Vice President Terence Endersen reported the results of the March 18 Parking Commission meeting: The purchase of Frank Colonna's Park Avenue parking lot was finalized and $750 was allocated for installation of "Quiet Zone" signs on Nieto Avenue, requested by residents. Endersen described his recent meeting with Mayor Foster to discuss his application to the Parking Commission. (The resident board position has been vacant for eleven months; Endersen was nominated by BSRA for the position.)

Several persons spoke briefly during the public comment period: The owner of Barry's Beach Shack explained the recent excavation in the parking lot to correct plumbing problems. The owner of We Olive thanked residents for their support of his business. A resident spoke of the frequent problem of encountering vomit on sidewalks near Second Street bars. The manager of Panama Joe's expressed his wish to be a good neighbor and urged residents to speak directly with him about any concerns.

Secretary Jeff Miller described the resources available at the Neighborhood Resource Center and referred anyone interested to contact them by phone at 562.570.1016 or at their web site:
